Scarlet Witch

Portrait of Elizabeth Olsen as her alter ego Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlett Witch from the Marvel Universe of stories.

Relaxing during the Thanksgiving week and working on some more illustrations. This time, it is a portrait of Elizabeth Olsen as her alter ego Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlett Witch from the Marvel Universe of stories.

Continuing to work through the interplay of the digital painting and intaglio to build form and showcase the light and shadow across the portrait.

Alternative movie poster for the Scarlett Witch

As I often do, I also created an alternative movie poster for my profile on the PosterSpy community.

These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

A New Hope

A New Hope

Star Wars alternative movie poster

Taking the day off to play…so that naturally means something related to Star Wars. This is an alternative movie poster for George Lucas’ original Star Wars using Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia as the poster’s central theme.

Detail of Princess Leia

In the detail above you can see the play between the digital paint and the engraver’s intaglio. There are lots of layers building up the shaper of her face through the use of lots of custom brushes, patterns, and channel operations.

These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

Aliens Artbook

Aliens Artbook

Portrait of a Xenomorph from Aliens

I have written about my love for the Alien franchise multiple times and have worked on several pieces over the years. However, I have never worked on any licensed work until now…

As part of the 35th Anniversary of the film PrintedInBlood put together a collaborative art project with artists around the globe to create a visual celebration of this science-fiction classic and published by Titan Books

Portrait of face hugger from Aliens

I submitted several illustrations for the book and although a few were rejected, these two illustrations were selected to be part of the compendium. The Xenomorph Warrior at the top of the page and the Facehugger hatching from the egg.

I am thrilled to be part of this collaborative project and proud to have 2 licensed pieces of Aliens artwork to add to my body of work. You can buy the book through the Titan Books store

Michael Corleone

Michael Corleone

Portrait of Al Pacino as Michael Corleone

I have written previously about my love for Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpieces, Godfather I & II, and the impact they had on me as a grandson of Italian immigrants to this nation. I have been working on another portrait from the films a young Al Pacino as the reluctant Don, Michael Corleone.

This portrait has a much rougher application of the intaglio technique in homage to J.C. Leyendecker and every other illustrator that has been working to capture his beautiful stylistic touches in his portraiture. I think it fits with the subject matter and that is one of the great things about this technique – it is perpetually fluid. I can adapt the courseness or fineness of the intaglio based on the brushes and scale to the canvas to allow it to impact the illustration.

This portrait were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

X-Files

Portrait of Gillian Anderson as Dana Sculley

Been seriously unmotivated lately. But I have been meaning to do something with the great Gillian Anderson and it seemed like a good subject to try to get out of my funk.

This is a portrait of her in the role that brought her into the general public’s eye as Agent Sculley from “The X-Files”.

Stranger Things Day

Stranger Things Day

Portrait of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven from "Stranger Things" on Netflix

Portrait of Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven from the first season of “Stranger Things“. Created by the Duffer Brothers this series as an instant hit for Netflix and a nod to the masters of 1980s cinema, most notably Steven Speilberg.

Although this was not Millie’s first role, it was the one that shot her to stardom due to her wonderful portrayal of Eleven. Although I have never tried to create anything from this series, I chose this year’s Stranger Things Day as an opportunity to pay homage to this series as we await the next season from the Duffer Brothers.

I also created an alternative movie poster to share with the artist’s community over at PosterSpy. These illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.
