Kingpin

Kingpin

Star Wars alternative movie poster

I have been wanting to do a Kingpin piece for a while now. Vincent D’Onofrio is a fantastic actor and his portrayal of the Kingpin in the Netflix series “Daredevil” was fantastic. With the conclusion of “Hawkeye” on Disney+ we now learn that our beloved characters from the Netflix series have been given new life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This piece is really a companion piece to my recent portrait of Charlie Cox as Daredevil. This portrait was created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

Vader

Vader

Portrait of Darth Vader

Portrait of the dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader from the mind of George Lucas and part of the Star Wars Universe of Stories. The character was so big, he was actually played by 2 actors: David Prowse portrayed him on screen while James Earl Jones gave him his voice.

Detail of portrait of Darth Vader

I remember seeing Darth Vader appear on screen in the theater as a kid. I had never seen anything like him before and that character would come to define evil as well as the chance for redemption through the Star Wars Universe of Stories.

This warm-down sketch was created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

Daredevil

Daredevil

Portrait of Daredevil

Portrait of Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock, also known as Daredevil, from the eponymous Netflix series and soon to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Detail of portrait of Daredevil

The great success of the show was certainly the casting but equally important was the writing. Daredevil had always been a local hero and the writer’s understood the mythology of this particular Marvel character exceptionally well. The storylines focused on small-scale events that impacted the neighborhood, Hell’s Kitchen, of Daredevil.

AsI frequently do with my illustrations that lend themselves to this extension, I also created an alternative movie poster as a one-sheet for the PosterSpy community.

These illustrations were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Portrait of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones

I have been looking for another concept illustration that might allow for gold leaf, similar to the Princess Leia May The Fourth piece, on the physical giclee printout. Given my love for Indiana Jones film series and “Raiders of the Lost Ark” I thought that the head of the staff of Ra might offer an opportunity for a new gold leaf piece.

Although the painting has depth to the crown, I am hopeful with some testing the print and composition will support the flat gold-leaf over select portions of the head of the staff of Ra.

I will share the process here, so keep on the lookout for new posts here and on my social feeds.

Also, as I try to do with many illustrations, I created an alternative movie poster for this illustration to share on my profile at PosterSpy, but I really like the simple portrait without the titling and credit blocks of the poster.

These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.

Kilgore

Kilgore

Portrait of Robert Duvall as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore from "Apocalypse Now"

Portrait of Academy Award Winning Actor Robert Duvall as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore from Francis Coppola’s epic “Apocalypse Now”. Robert Duvall plays Colonel Kilgore who is the fearless leader encountered on Captain Willard’s (Martin Sheen) journey to rendezvous with Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando).

Detail of portrait of Robert Duvall as Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore from "Apocalypse Now"

Duvall’s character Kilgore delivers a now famous and often misquote line in the film:

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t find one of ’em, not one stinkin’…body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like victory.

Grace

Grace

Portrait of Grace Kelly

Reaching back to the golden age of Hollywood for a portrait of of the legendary actress turned real-life princess, Grace Kelly in her heyday as the Hollywood Starlet. I remember seeing her in “To Catch a Thief” with Cary Grant and thinking there couldn’t be two cooler people on earth…a position I still hold to this day.

Detail of portrait of Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly was the epitome of classy and stole the eye of the Prince of Monaco some years later, becoming an actual Princess of Monaco when she wed Prince Rainier III in April 1956. It was a loss for Hollywood considering the breadth of work she accomplished in her short career as a leading lady.

This portrait were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.
