Spider-Gwen

Illustration of Spider-Gwen from the Spiderverse

Testing some new techniques and some custom brushes with this illustration of Spider-Gwen.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was one of the best movies of 2019; I state 2019 despite it being released at the end of 2018 since that is when most folks saw it.

Spider-Gwen plays a pivotal role in this film and is on par with Miles at being my favorite character from the film.

This sketch portrait was produced in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

New Techniques

New Techniques

Portrait of the Batman

As I continue to transpose my traditional painting background to digital I experiment with brushes, tonality, and a variety of techniques designed to replicate what I am capable of using traditional mediums, like paint, pastels, and charcoals, within the digital realm.

I am getting closer to my intent with these portraits of the Batman and Spider Gwen, but there is still more to do from my perspective. I feel that I have progressed far with these techniques throughout this year and the pandemic as I try to turn some of this year’s events into some sort of positive but there is still more to learn and explore. I will continue to explore new techniques while refining those that I feel are supportive of the natural medias I am trying to replicate with these illustrations.

These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop with custom brushes.

Steve Zissou

Steve Zissou

Full-frame illustration of Bill Murray

Wes Anderson has a unique perspective when it comes to film-making that is somewhat unmatched in Hollywood. From his symmetrical cinematography to his quirky mulligan-driven plots, there are very few directors like him working today.

Alternate movie poster for "The Life Aquatic"

This is a portrait of Bill Murray in his title role as Steve Zissou, from the film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Wes Anderson makes a habit of working with a group of talented actors on his films and Bill Murray is usually one of the stars in his work.

This painting was created using Adobe Illustrato and Adobe Photoshop.

Frankenstein’s Monster

Frankenstein’s Monster

Portrait of Frankenstein's monster

Portrait of Boris Karloff in his iconic role of the monster in James Whale’s Frankenstein, released in November of 1931. Many have tried to recapture the spirit of Karloff’s portrayal, but none have been successful.

This portrait is a little different from recent work as it focuses on a heavier use of simple linework, akin to engraving, to build the shadows within the portrait. However, this portrait was still created using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Jurassic Park posters

Jurassic Park posters

Jurassic Park poster featuring Gallimimus

Jurassic Park was a best-selling novel by the Author Michael Crichton which was made into a blockbuster movie by Steven Spielberg in 1993 about a man who creates a theme park populated with dinosaurs. John J. Audobon was ornithologist, naturalist, and painter who became famous for his extensive studies on wildlife.

I wanted to combine the sensibilities of those naturalist paintings with promotional posters for the theme park from the Jurassic Park franchise in this ongoing series of illustrations.

The first 3 dinosaurs in the series are: Gallimimus, Velociraptor, and Dilophosaurus. These illustrations are created in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
