Despite my love for the Star Wars universe of stories, I just cannot bear the prequels like “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith“. To me, they seemed to be an indoctrination tool for another generation to sell toys. The action sequences are absolutely phenomenal; I was doing a lot of post work at the time and reading about the roughly 1,600 pre-composition shots that actually ended up in the final film was mind-blowing.
However, the storyline and the acting were never to the level that matched the rest of the production value of the films. This third prequel, “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith” is probably the best of the lot but they were never really my cup of tea. With the new Obi-Wan series for Disney+ I did want to illustrate the young Jedi master before he makes his resurgence so I chose a split portrait with Sith & Jedi.
I reworked the layout as well as the intaglio layering a couple of times – making them larger and a bit rougher than some of my recent paintings. The technique is an evolving one that requires constant experimentation that I will continue to push through the new year.
These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.
