2022 Year in Review

2022 Year in Review

A look back at some of the illustrations that I created during the year, 2022 while I continued to merge my traditional and digital styles. They range across the pop culture spectrum with specific emphasis on Star Wars and Marvel properties with an ongoing series depicting Princess Leia as the heroine of the rebellion and Jedi doyen.

A rough estimate puts the number of illustrations over 100; which does not include studies and traditional work I produced this year. The pandemic has taken its toll on many, myself included, and I have coped through distance running and painting as outlets from the daily work and rigor of adulting.

Portrait of Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal.

I also had my 3rd licensed property released this year with my portrait of Mads Mikkelsen in his stunning portrayal as Hannibal; originally painted in March of 2021). Prints of this piece are still available for purchase.

These works were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, ProCreate and Adobe Photoshop and a host of custom brushes developed over the last year or two, during the pandemic.

Back for another year of the TerrorTwos. This year’s entry for the #TerrorTwos2 is an alternative poster for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s “From Dusk Till Dawn”. As part of this year’s fun, we are trying to do a little good as well with a print sale at the beginning of November with all proceeds going to benefit the UNICEF Ukraine Appeal, in support of children and families affected by the war in Ukraine.

The work was created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, ProCreate and Adobe Photoshop and a host of custom brushes developed over the last year or two, during the pandemic.

Mace Windu, continued

Mace Windu, continued

Portrait of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu

Continuation of the work-in-progress portrait of Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu from the Star Wars universe of stories. Sometimes you never know where inspiration might take you. I spent time exploring the actor, the story, my tools, and techniques with no end goal other than to create a portrait of a favorite actor.

The process tooks some turns and like most creative endeavors, required some percolation. This is a piece in time and I may continue to evolve it in the future. But for now, I am going to have some coffee.

The work is being done using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, ProCreate and Adobe Photoshop and a host of custom brushes developed over the last year or two, during the pandemic.
