Obi-Wan Kenobi’s last view of his student, Anakin Skywalker, as he battles Darth Vader in his climactic scene on the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
I remember seeing this film on the big screen at the Loews theater in New York City as a kid. This movie was the biggest thing in the world in 1977 and this scene where Vader and Obi-Wan battle on the Death Star was devastating to my 11-year-old self.
The universe of stories that George Lucas created and has continued to evolve throughout my life has been a welcome diversion. As he celebrates another birthday this past weekend, I want to acknowledge how much impact he has had through his work as a storyteller over these past 40+ years.
