Portrait of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker

Continuing to burn some PTO from the day-job, so I worked up an illustration of Daisy Ridley as the scavenger Rey, soon to become a Skywalker and Jedi, from the Star Wars universe of stories.

Detail of portrait of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker

We were living in Austin and I was working at IBM Design when this film came out. Daisy was an immediate star from her performance as Rey in this film and the impact she had on popular culture was immediate as well. My, then, 8-year-old went upstairs after we got back from the film and came back down having done her hair to match her new hero – Rey. They continue to admire the character and also Daisy Ridley as a growing artist in her oeuvre.

The impact of these films, any film that connects with its audience, can be profound. Having seen the original Star Wars in New York City as a child I can attest to that first-hand. I continue to be a fan of these films and the growing stories that continue to come from the creative minds like Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, et. al. who continue to build on George Lucas’ universe of stories.

These portraits were created using Adobe Illustrator, Corel Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.
