When we moved into our home, we had a smaller backyard than we were accustomed to but we still wanted to be able to grow some fruit. We planted mangos, papayas, orange, key lime, and lemon trees. Some of those took to their new home while other did not, but the banana tree has thrived in its backyard.

For the first year, I was convinced it would never fruit, but last spring it suddenly popped this giant flower and we had our first fresh banana crop. This year, the plant decided the quarantine was a good time to start the process and I can hardly wait for these delicious bananas. The taste is far more subtle than you will find from the fruit at your local Publix and the plant itself is easy to care for.

After this season, I think we will finally replant some of the sprouts around this small jungle and spread these trees throughout the yard and hope for another crop in 2021.
